Rolfo quickest at Valencia as Debón makes debut

Three 250cc Honda riders were in action at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana today, where the first preseason tests of the New Year got underway in cold conditions. Fortuna Honda rider Roberto Rolfo clocked the quickest time of the day with a fastest lap of 1.38.9, around two seconds slower than his best effort at the Grand Prix last month, when he finished second. The BQR line-up of Álex Debón and Eric Bataille lapped alongside the Italian, with Debón making his first appearance in the team´s colours.

`We are still working with last year´s bikes whilst we await some new pieces, but the first point of contact has been very positive,´ said Debon at the end of the session. `Changing from an Aprilia to a Honda is always difficult because of the difference in the power delivery of both motorcycles.´

The first of a two-day test was completed without incident, although Bataille did run off the track on the last of his 54 laps. Despite the bitter cold the track stayed dry throughout the session, with some drops of rain beginning to fall at the end of the day. All three riders will be back on the Cheste circuit tomorrow.
