Haga explains progress of Aprilia Cube development

After a season-long absence from Grand Prix racing, Noriyuki Haga returns from the WSB series with Aprilia Racing in 2003 to team up with Colin Edwards. The Italian factory effort is now doubled, after a year of development with Régis Laconi as their sole rider, and their intense preseason programme was kicked off down at Jerez last week, picking up from initial shakedown tests before the winter holidays.

`We struggled to find a good set-up on the first two days´, explains Haga. `Even though we tried to improve with several different solutions, we could not find the right way to go. Another problem we had was with the rain, which made us miss an entire session. On the final day we worked a few things out and I was able to put some good times in´.

With three tests aboard the Cube now under his belt, the slide specialist believes he needs more track time and more hard work from Aprilia before the bike reaches its optimum level. `I think that right now these bikes would not be completely competitive in a race situation. In each session we are finding solutions to problems and improving aspects of the machine and I am confident this will continue to be the case with the help of the factory´.
