Steve Jenkner targets first victory with WWC

Steve Jenkner believes that he is ready for his best season ever in Grand Prix racing, after signing to ride with the WWC Aprilia team that won the World Championship with Arnaud Vincent last year. The German, who scored five podiums during 2002 and ended the season in fifth place, has set a maiden victory in the series as his target for this year, with a view to a title tilt in 2004.

`I have signed a two year contract with a very good team and I am confident of winning races this season,´ declared the 26 year old. `We will have support from Aprilia and things are looking good right now. Of course, we will find out more at the first test in Valencia next week but our aim is to win the World Championship in two years and I see no reason why we can´t do that´.

With the winter break providing ample opportunity for rest and recovery, Jenkner revealed that he is more than ready to get back on a bike after taking a rather different approach to preseason training. `For about a month after the end of the season it was nice to chill out and relax a bit, but now it is time to ride again. I have been working out in the gym a bit and playing ice hockey with my local team. It is my second favourite sport and a great way to keep fit!´.
