Suzuki continue preseason testing programme at Phillip Island

Team Suzuki today pressed ahead with the next stage of their intense winter testing schedule at Phillip Island. The Australian circuit welcomes the latest evolution version of the GSV-R racer, ridden by Americans Kenny Roberts and John Hopkins, for four days of development which will provide the factory mechanics with an important opportunity to measure performance of the 2003 prototype against two key rivals, with Ducati and Kawasaki both having lapped there in recent weeks.

The new machine made a surprise debut at the Sepang circuit three weeks ago, when four days of testing boosted team confidence and prompted an optimistic appraisal from former 500cc World Champion Roberts. `There are a few major things that still need doing to win races, and improving the top speed is one of them,´ he commented at the time. `But the factory has already taken the biggest step forward that I´ve know, even compared with introducing the new four-stroke last year. The new bike has a lot of promise. There´s still a ways to go, but everyone in the team is really enthusiastic.´

Suzuki are lapping at Phillip Island from the 3-7 February, with a one day break, before returning to Europe for the first IRTA test at Jerez at the end of the month.
