Jacque back on track at Yamaha tests in Catalunya

After having suffered a worrying crash three weeks ago at team tests, Olivier Jacque made a welcome return at further Yamaha tests which took place today and yesterday at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. The Frenchman crashed out of a rain-affected session at Jerez back in January, and fell onto the wrist he had injured seriously in similar pre-season training two years ago. To compound the worry further, Jacque had only recently been operated on to remove the screws and plate inserted at the time of the original injury.

The Gauloises Yamaha Tech3 rider was therefore relieved to be back on board the Yamaha machine this week, "When I had the small crash at Jerez I decided to miss out the next test in Valencia, simply as a precautionary measure. I lost control because the track was slightly damp and although I knew straight away it wasn't too serious, I did pull the ligaments which are still recovering now. After the operation in December I am lacking strength in my wrist, and this is why I haven't been able to go too quick so far. However it is now a question of getting back to understanding the machine again and getting ready for the start of the MotoGP season.

Jacque was testing alongside Tech3 team-mate Alex Barros, who continues to impress in his learning curve aboard the four-cylinder M1 bike. Also present were Fortuna Yamaha pairing Carlos Checa and Marco Melandri, and Jacque's old team-mate Shinya Nakano. The riders were late getting started on both days due to a cold track, but soon made up by putting in some solid work throughout the afternoon session. The Yamaha riders will next be testing at the official IRTA gathering in just over a week's time.

Unofficial lap times from Catalunya:

Alex Barros, Gauloises Yamaha Team 1'44.0s (58 laps today)
Carlos Checa, Fortuna Yamaha Team 1'44.3s (46)
Shinya Nakano, D'Antin Yamaha 1'44.8s (62)
Marco Melandri, Fortuna Yamaha Team 1'45.7s (75)
Olivier Jacque, Gauloises Yamaha Team 1'47.7s (49)
