125cc riders tiptoe around damp Jerez

The 125cc World Championship entrants had their second day of IRTA tests plagued by the rain in Jerez today. The only real period the riders enjoyed on slick tyres came this afternoon when a combination of sunshine and strong breezes helped dry the track sufficiently. Fastest over the two days in the class was veteran Italian Stefano Perugini who rides an Aprilia this year. The official timing at the circuit clocked the 28 year-old in at 1 minute 49.587 seconds, with San Marino's Alex de Angelis second fastest ahead of four Italians, Simone Corsi, Mirko Giansanti, Max Sabbatani and Lucio Cecchinello.

There were several crashes on the damp track over the two days, including home favourites Daniel Pedrosa and Emilio Alzamora, but fortunately none were serious. The 125cc riders now make way for the MotoGP and 250cc bikes take to the Spanish track, as they pack up and head to Estoril in Portugal for the second IRTA session.$$$ Official times from 125cc IRTA Test Jerez - 19/20 February 2003
