Matsudo confirms Yamaha Kurz deal

Naoki Matsudo today confirmed that he has definitely signed with Yamaha Kurz for an extra season in the 250cc World Championship. The Japanese rider was already on the 2003 provisional entry list, but negotiations between himself, the German outfit and the Japanese factory have dragged on and he was happy to finally announce that Aprilia and Honda will fight for the 2003 title with a third factory.

`At last I can confirm my participation in the 2003 World Championship,´ said a relieved Matsudo. `Since the end of December we have been negotiating with Yamaha Kurz to seal the contract and continue one more season with them. In January it looked like everything was done, but there were complications and we could not attend the Jerez and Portugal IRTA tests as I would have liked. Yesterday we finally sorted everything out and my participation is confirmed´.

$$$ `We have not done a single test and we won´t get chance to get the bike out before Suzuka, so the team is putting together the Yamaha TZ we used in the second half of last season. I am continuing with my own physical preparation, training twice a day – once in the morning and once in the afternoon – with gym work, jogging and cycling´.

`Last year it was a similar story because we closed the contract on the last possible day. I was joining a new team and I got on the new bike without ever having completed one lap before the first race. I was very worried and nervous, but this time I am with the same team, on the same bike, so I am a lot more relaxed. Even though I will be racing without preparation, I will try to make the most of the opportunity. I don´t want to repeat any mistakes or crash when I have the victory in my hands. I am determined to fight for the podium and finish in the top eight.
