Ukawa speeds up to end MotoGP test weekend in second place

Tohru Ukawa may not have a shiny BMW parked in his garage after the MotoGP test timed session but a new motor slotted into his Camel Pramac Honda Pons machine enabled him to take second spot overall in the MotoGP test at Catalunya.
After the last minute of the test timed session in which Loris Capirossi set the fastest lap on two consecutive occasions ahead of Alex Barros and Valentino Rossi, the toil of development work continued for more than half of the paddock.
Yamaha teams D´Antin, Fortuna, Tech3, the Honda squads of Repsol, Telefonica Movistar, Camel Pramac Honda Pons, the Ducati duo and Kawasaki.
Sete Gibernau carried on riding despite pain from an injured right wrist while a tired-looking Valentino Rossi completed sporadic laps.
Ukawa continued to work and with the updated engine between his legs posted a lap time two tenths of a second slower than Capirossi´s car-winning effort but faster by four hundreds than Barros. Others to improve their overall standing were Troy Bayliss (to 9th), Sete Gibernau (to 4th moving Rossi to fifth), Kato (to 6th) and Nakano (to 8th).
Shinichi Itoh´s injury from a fall that caused the red flags to come out for ten minutes in the timed session resulted in a contusion to the left leg.
Those packing up early included Suzuki but the team have completed more than enough miles this week with also several days completed in Valencia alongside the 125s and 250s.
