Porto gets mini send-off in Rafaela

Sebastián Porto received a heartfelt send-off from his friends and relatives in his hometown of Rafaela this week, before heading out to Japan for the first race of what he has described as the most important race of his career. The Argentinean organised a traditional barbecue at his house and, at the end of the party, he was presented with a special gift, a minibike replica of his Honda 250 RSW. There were also official duties to attend to, with `Sebas´ also picking up two national awards for sporting merit. Porto heads east on Monday and will not be back for five months as he looks to establish a title challenge in the 250cc World Championship.

`Never in my career have I had such firm backing as I will have in 2003´, said Porto, who will ride in the official HRC team under the guidance of Alberto Puig and with sponsorship from Telefónica Movistar and Repsol YPF. $$$ `To have the experience of Alberto at the head of a fantastic team, who have respected and understood my way of setting up the bike and riding style is something that will be reflected on the racetrack. It won´t come straight away because the bike is new and still under development, but we will be very competitive very soon´.
