De Angelis on provisional pole as QP1 cut short by rain

Alex De Anglis marked his first qualifying practice with the Racing World team with provisional pole position at Suzuka today as a light rain shower restricted any movement at the top of the time sheets for the remaining ten minutes of the session. The San Marino youngster clocked his best effort on the fourth of just five laps, and held on to top spot as efforts from Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner in particular were foiled by the weather.

Pedrosa remained in second spot but Stoner was forced to accept a position on the provisional second row, as his team-mate and boss Lucio Cecchinello led a quartet of Italian riders in front of him. Cecchinello conditionally lines up on the front row in third spot alongside Mirko Giansanti, whilst Stefano Perugini and Max Sabbatani take promising second row positions ahead of Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso.

Dovizioso´s effort was particularly impressive considering that he broke his right collarbone in a free practice crash this morning.

World Champion Arnaud Vincent was 16th fastest, whilst team-mate Roberto Locatelli qualified in 27th spot.
