Aoyama on pole, Elias outside qualification time

Mixed conditions for the 250 riders meant that there was little change from yesterday´s provisional grid, leaving local wildcard rider Hiroshi Aoyama on pole position and title contender Toni Elias out of the 107% qualification time. The Spaniard fought bravely to improve his best effort from yesterday despite dangerously wet conditions, but his challenge was ended when he slid into the gravel with just a few minutes remaining. Chaz Davies, Eric Bataille, Katja Poensgen, Joan Olive and Henk Vd Lagemaat also missed the cut-off point.

The only man who made the qualification time during the session having failed to do so yesterday was Manuel Poggiali, who edged up to 23rd spot to clinch the penultimate grid position ahead of German debutante Christian Gemmel. The rest of the grid remains as it was yesterday, with Aoyama joined on the front row by Katsuyuki Nakasuga, Alex Debon and Roberto Rolfo.
