Schwantz injures hand in supermoto crash

Former 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz injured his left hand when he was knocked down during the STTARS SuperTT race at California Speedway on Sunday. The American was subjected to x-rays on Monday night in Atlanta, where it was revealed that he had broken the metacarpal bones of his middle three fingers.

The bones are broken at the base of the hand and are in good alignment, meaning Schwantz does not need surgery. He was in a splint for the first two days until the swelling went down and is now wearing a removable brace, which he will have to wear for the next four to six weeks. However, Schwantz claims he will be back to 100% and ready to make his competitive return to professional motorcycle racing. `It was an unfortunate incident, but I´ll be ready for the start of the AMA Red Bull Supermoto season,´ he said.
