De Puniet takes second career pole

Randy De Puniet took pole position for the 250cc race after dominating the final qualifying session in the late afternoon sunshine. The Frenchman withstood late pressure from Manuel Poggiali to head an all-Aprilia top four from the series leader, with Franco Battaini and Fonsi Nieto completing the front row positions in third and fourth respectively.

Sebastian Porto provided a ray of light for Honda, securing fifth place and his location at the head of the second row. Toni Elias was still feeling the effects of a fractured thumb sustained in the first practice yesterday but held on to sixth. Anthony West continued his encouraging start to the season with seventh place on the grid, whilst Roberto Rolfo completes the second row in eighth.
