Awesome last lap in Welkom sees Pedrosa steal Ui´s thunder

Dani Pedrosa produced a sensational performance when it counted on the last lap of the 125cc Arnette Africa´s GP and deprived Youichi Ui of glory after the Japanese rider led for 23 out of 24 circulations.

The young Spaniard hit the front after fighting his way through the leading group of six riders several turns from the chequered flag. Ui had been dominant from the green light as he was closely chased by a squabbling pack of Pedrosa, Steve Jenker, Andrea Dovizioso, Pablo Nieto and Alex De Angelis.

As the final lap tussle for positions ensued after a largely dormant affair, UI lost out in the aggressive charge by Pedrosa and then Dovizioso in the last couple of corners, the 30 year old was forced onto the grass hitting the finish straight and disappointingly crossed the line in an undeserving fourth.

Pedrosa gained his fourth career victory while Dovizioso and Jenker completed the podium. Nieto was fifth, De Angelis in sixth and Mika Kallio with a decent seventh.

Defending World Champion Arnaud Vincent scored KTM´s first ever road racing GP points with 12th. Suzuka podium finisher Mirko Giansanti slumped to 15th while round one winner Stefano Perugini did not even complete the first lap due to mechanical problems.
