Max Biaggi comments on points record

Max Biaggi gained his second consecutive podium after two races last weekend in South Africa. The Italian also set a new record for career points scored with his third place behind Sete Gibernau and Valentino Rossi. The 31 year old now has 2310, 12 points more than former number one Mick Doohan, and only needed to finish the race on Sunday in twelfth position or higher to earn the accolade.

Biaggi racked-up his total thanks to a very successful CV in both the 250 and 500cc categories. He won the 250 title four times in succession, three times with Aprilia and then with Honda as well as taking a career haul of 39 Grand Prix (29 in 250s and 10 in MotoGP). He recorded his first ever World Championship success in his debut season back in 1992. ´It is always nice to get a record,´ he said. ´It´s quite a strange distinction to have but it´s good to be the first rider to achieve something like this.

I've had a very good start to the season especially since I had some engine trouble at Welkom, I can still go for third position despite this setback so I am happy. Now I am really looking forward to Jerez, it is my goal to go for the win there.´
