Barrichello impressed by superior speed of MotoGP

MotoGP fan Rubens Barrichello was in Jerez at the weekend to cheer on his best friend and Brazilian compatriot Alex Barros. The Formula 1 driver, who had stayed on in Spain after racing at Catalunya the previous weekend, took the opportunity to compare the performance of the latest generation MotoGP bikes against the F1 cars, which often test at the circuit, and he was impressed.

`There is a lot of difference – for a start it looks a lot harder to ride a bike here than it does to drive a Formula 1 car!´ he laughed. `I really enjoy watching MotoGP, though and Jerez is a great place to come. The facilities here are fantastic now and of course the weather is perfect too! It´s great fun.´

With Nicky Hayden travelling at 279,6 km/h down the back straight, the top speed of the weekend was quicker than that of the F1 cars at Jerez. `I am very surprised by that,´ said Barrichello. `It really is amazing how quick they go on a bike - these guys are more crazy than us!´
