Aprilia riders have now won the last seven consecutive races in the 250cc category. Manuel Poggiali starts from pole position for the first time in the 250cc class. Poggiali's victory in the 125cc race at Le Mans in 2000 was his first ever win in GP racing.

Franco Battaini starts from his best grid position since he started from pole at Mugello last year. Randy De Puniet, who is starting from the front row for the third consecutive race, scored one of his two podium finishes of 2002 at the Le Mans circuit.

Fonsi Nieto's victory last year in France was the first time an Aprilia rider had taken the victory in a 250cc GP race at Le Mans. Toni Elias' fifth place on the grid is his best qualifying result so far in 2003.

Sylvain Guintoli's starts from his best ever grid position, his previous best being an eighth place at the first round of the year at Suzuka.

Erwan Nigon, Hugo Marchand, Joan Olive and Chaz Davies are all starting from their highest ever grid positions in the 250cc class.
