Dovizioso looking to kick off Italian party

After the historic Spanish hat-trick in Le Mans, which saw wins for Gibernau, Elias and Dani Pedrosa, the responsibility falls to Andrea Dovizioso to set Italy on the way to a similar festival in the 125cc race this weekend. The 17 year old has been in outstanding form in the opening quarter of the season – since taking a surprise fifth place in the opening round he has qualified on the front row twice, including pole position last week at Le Mans, and has also finished on the podium twice. The one achievement lacking from his CV now is a victory, and it would be a brave man to bet against the explosive youngster in front of the passionate home support on Sunday.

`Dovi´ will be only too aware of the task at hand, however, as he comes face to face once again with fellow Honda rider Pedrosa, leading the series for the second time this year, and compatriot Lucio Cecchinello. The veteran Italian kicked off the last Italian hat-trick at Brno in 2002, when his victory in the 125 race was repeated by Marco Melandri in 250 and Max Biaggi in MotoGP. Cecchinello currently lies second in the championship and is looking to consolidate his title challenge with a first ever victory on home soil.
