Bad memories for Sabbatani at Mugello

Max Sabbatani this weekend returns to the scene of a nasty practice crash which almost ended his career. The diminuitive Italian lost control of his Aprilia at the Borgo San Lorenzo corner and caught his leg in the rear wheel of the bike. Despite initial fears for his future in Grand Prix raccing, Sabbatani came through several operations and miraculously returned to action a little over a month later, and he insists the incident will not affect his performance this weekend.

`Last year I was involved in a really bad accident, and it was a tough time for me. Luckily Doctor Costa and his team helped me recover and now I don´t think there will be any more problems. Perhaps there are doubts in my head but after two or three laps I will have forgotten about them, and I´m hoping I can have a good race. My recovery was so quick thanks to Claudio Costa and incredibly I was relatively fit in 41 days. The situation at the time wasn´t any good, but he said to me, `you´ll see, you will only miss two races,´ and that´s how it was! I hope this year to have a little bit more luck, and to get back to doing good races´.
