Dani Pedrosa claimed his third win of the season this morning in Catalunya beating 16 year old Thomas Luthi and Alex De Angelis as his rivals fell by the wayside, giving him a significant lead in the World Championship standings. The Spaniard bought a packed grandstand enduring the hot conditions to their feet and the noise rose to fever pitch as he passed Luthi on the final lap and held on to the flag.

The victory and 25 points for the Honda rider could prove to be vital with Lucio Cecchinello retiring with mechanical problems and Andrea Dovizioso crashing out with Hector Barbera. Pedrosa actually leads Cecchinello by 25 points now with Steve Jenkner, who took fourth today, sitting in third trailing by 43.

Aside from Pedrosa's victory the real headlines of the GP must belong to teenager Luthi and Jorge Lorenzo, who scored his best ever race result and Derbi's highest placing of the year with a remarkable charge from 21st to 6th.$$$ Luthi emergence was also impressive. The Swiss rider carved his way from a first lap position of 12th with surprising efficiency to lead the race and eventually score his first ever podium.

The 125 race was typically frantic with a front group of nine riders at one stage. Casey Stoner crashed out again after tangling with Dovizioso on lap nine while Youichi Ui was also a faller. Pablo Nieto hit the deck in the closing laps.
