Mirko Giansanti set for 100th start at Donington

Italian rider Mirko Giansanti is scheduled to make his 100th Grand Prix start at the British Grand Prix at Donington Park. The twenty-six year old made his GP debut in 1996 at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello and moved into the GP arena full time in 1997 after finishing in second place in the European Championships in 1996. The Italian rode a Honda throughout 1997 and 1998 for the Matteoni Team and scored his first podium in Malaysia during 1998. Following an unsuccessful year riding an Aprilia in 1999 he switched back to riding a Honda for 2000 in the Benetton Playlife team.

After finishing on the podium five times in the first six races of 2000, Giansanti was leading the title chase when he crashed in qualifying for the Catalan GP resulting in a broken wrist that ruined his championship aspirations. Giansanti has scored a single podium finish in each of the years since 2000, including a second place at the opening round of this year, but is still looking for that elusive first victory.
