Perugini on pole at Sachsenring

Stefano Perugini took pole position for the Cinzano Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland in cool and cloudy conditions at the Sachsenring circuit this afternoon. The Italian veteran took advantage of a series of slipstreams to post a best time of 1´27.717 in a frenetic final session which seemed more like a race as the 38 riders bunched together around this tight and twisty circuit. Provisional pole holder Alex De Angelis was second fastest and the pair are joined on the front row by Hector Barbera, high on confidence after his debut win two weeks ago, and Lucio Cecchinello.

Cecchinello was led to his fastest time by team-mate Casey Stoner, who could not break clear of the second row and will start tomorrow´s race from fifth place. Honda pair Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa significantly improved their times from yesterday but were also forced to accept second row starts in sixth and seventh respectively, with Gino Borsoi edging out home hero Steve Jenkner for the final second row slot in eighth.
