Marketa Janakova the latest speed queen to try her luck at Brno

The list of wildcards for the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky contains four Czech riders and one Slovakian, with the name of Marketa Janakova standing out as the latest female rider to try her luck in the World Championship. The 15 year old from Dvur Kralove has been offered the chance to prove her worth on the world stage after impressing in the national 125cc competition, which she leads by 13 points. Last week she took her first victory in a round held in Hungary to bring her season podium tally to five.

Janakova, who combines her racing career with an economics course, rides a Honda for the Elcom-IPC Heron Racing team and has high hopes of qualifying for the race after setting a best lap of 2'17.380 here earlier in the season. If she does make the grade she will follow in the footsteps of other female competitors such as Katja Poensgen, who currently rides in the 250cc series, and former 125cc riders Taru Rinne, Daniela Tognoli and Tomoko Igata.
