Vincent replaces Youichi Ui in the Sterilgarda Racing team

Sterilgarda Racing have reached an agreement with Arnaud Vincent for the Frenchman to join the team for the rest of the season. The reigning World Champion, who lost his original ride with the new KTM squad, will slide into the Italian outfit to replace Japanese rider Youichi UI. Vincent will once again steer an Aprilia – the manufacturer with which he secured his crown last season - in the next race of the 125cc Championship taking place on September 7th in Portugal.

A spokesman for the Sterilgarda Racing explained: "This decision has been made in the best interests of our sponsors to have the number one plate in the category and obviously in the hope that Vincent will take some better results than the team have managed so far this season. From the moment that Vincent was a free agent, we were interested in securing his services. We were looking into the possibility of running three riders but it turned out that this wasn't possible." The team will continue with the second rider, 20 year old Italian Giole Pellino.

Concerning the loss of UI, who occupies ninth position in the Championship with 91 points, the team remarked: "It is always difficult to lose a member of the squad but it is true that Youichi had a fantastic pre-season and then the results so far have not reached everyone's expectations."

The deal between the Frenchman and the Italian team has an option to continue into 2004 and possibly a ride in the 250cc World Championship.
