Wildcards for the Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal

Unknown Italian Manuel Manna is the main addition to the otherwise familiar list of wildcards for the 125cc Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal this weekend. The 19 year old is currently riding in the Spanish Championship after making the switch from national and European competition at the end of 2002 to ride for Matteoni Racing. Manna, who is also a keen football player, has a best finish of sixth at the Catalunya Circuit to his credit and makes his World Championship debut on an Aprilia in Portugal.

Spanish riders David Bonache, Ismael Ortega and Sergio Gadea are all making their third Grand Prix appearance of the season having already contested the two rounds on Spanish soil. Aprilia rider Gadea has been the most successful of the three so far, finishing 25th at Jerez and improving by two places at Catalunya. Ortega, who rides an Aprilia with the Seedorf Racing team, finished 27th at Jerez but missed the race at Catalunya after crashing and injuring himself in qualifying. Bonache, who rides a TSR, did not finish either race.
