Youichi Ui joins the Metis Gilera Racing Team

Youichi Ui this weekend becomes the first Japanese rider to steer the Gilera in the 125cc class of the MotoGP World Championship as team-mate in the Italian squad to Stefano Bianco. After starting the season with Aprilia, and after four years spent as a rider for Derbi (celebrated with two World Championship runner-up positions and 11 Grand Prix wins) Youichi Ui is hoping to return to the better days he experienced in 2000 and 2001. The Japanese veteran has signed for the team to contest the last six races remaining this year.

Youichi Ui: "I am really happy to return home. My best years in the World Championships were with Derbi, between 1999 and 2002, and I now I am riding another bike from the Piaggio Group. I have a lot of enthusiasm and I am sure that I can achieve some big things with a bike that I know and I believe will be competitive. I will give everything to pay back the confidence the team have shown in me and I hope that I finally find some luck."
