Ducati Marlboro Team complete Mugello test

Ducati Marlboro Team has concluded two days of testing at Mugello on Wednesday and Thursday. With their regular Desmosedici machines already packed up and on their way to Brazil for the Cinzano Rio Grand Prix next week, Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss used the team's development bikes to evaluate a series of new components aimed at the 2004 season, as well as testing out various solutions that may be used in the remaining races.

The late summer sun ensured ideal conditions at the Italian circuit, with track temperatures of 35°C enabling both riders to set excellent times. Loris Capirossi continued to test the new larger-diameter Ohlins front fork he used at Estoril last week and established a much better feeling with the fork as he clocked a best lap of 1'52.1.

Troy Bayliss, who opted not to use the fork in Estoril, tried it out for the first time and enjoyed instant results, lapping two tenths quicker than Valentino Rossi's pole time at the Gran Premio Cinzano d'Italia last June with a lap of 1'51.7. Both riders, who lapped with race set-up, also tried out a number of new rear tyres in collaboration with Michelin tyre engineers.
