Quotes from the front row

Sete Gibernau (1st): "It has been a very positive day considering that last night I had a bad fever and today I am still not feeling 100%. We worked well in the morning so I put the same tyre on in the afternoon and maintained a steady rhythm in 1'49". Towards the end of the session we put a soft qualifying tyre on and set a 1'48, and obviously I am very happy it was enough for provisional pole. In any case, we still have to work on the bike to make it turn better in the apex of the corner and sort out the race set-up."

Valentino Rossi (2nd): "We have a few problems on the bike but nothing that we can't get right for tomorrow. When I brake the front goes too far down and the back is very light. We also need more edge grip in places on the track."

Makoto Tamada (3rd): "We tried out three different tyre solutions and the results are encouraging. In terms of riding I still have a bit more to give and I can go much faster tomorrow. This track has no secrets for me, and I know that if you have a good rhythm and are determined on the brakes you can beat your rivals."

Max Biaggi (4th): "We made some good progress from the morning to the afternoon, mainly because HRC gave us a good engine mapping which proved to be competitive. In Brazil the bike was constantly spinning but here it is better and the power delivery is more linear. We have a good base and we can work from there on the set-up".
