Pedrosa celebrates in Malasia and Puig comments on an intense weekend in Sepang

After emotional scenes at the end of the race when he won his first World Championship, Dani Pedrosa let his hair down in style to celebrate with his team, as well as close members of the media who continually follow the Grand Prix trail. Taking place last night at Sepang, the circuit where his fifth race victory of the year had confirmed his status a number one, the young rider from Barcelona sipped champagne together with team-mate Sebastián Porto and along with mentor and team manager Alberto Puig.

Puig, the man who spotted and nurtured the talent of Pedrosa when he was 13 years old and has guided his career since he took part in the 1999 Spanish Movistar cup, was naturally buzzing about his protégé's achievement. The ex rider, who is not prone to public displays of overt emotion, could not hide yesterday his excitement. After the race he spoke to motograndprix.com giving his views on the weekend when Spain crowned another World Champion in the 125cc class:

`I think we did really well at this race, Dani more or less ran away with it right from the start," he reflected. "What can I say? Everything has been great, he won the Championship and he deserved it. For my part I want to give thanks to all the companies who have helped with this programme. Telefónica, Repsol, Dorna, who have been with us since the start of the project. I am really happy."

Regarding the weekend as a whole in Sepang, the chief of the Telefónica Movistar Jr. Team remarked: `It was pretty complicated because we had some problems with the bike, but you can really count on a rider like Dani to sort things out. This is such a hard class and he has helped more than I can say. I am the happiest man in the world and I am thrilled for him´.
