Lorenzo carries pole pace to the island

Six days after his maiden pole position at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, Jorge Lorenzo was back on top of the 125cc pile at Phillip Island today as he set provisional pole position for the SKYY Vodka Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The 16 year old Spaniard, in the absence of his compatriot Dani Pedrosa who was undergoing an emergency operation on his ankle in Melbourne, headed an all-teenage front row which also includes Hector Barbera, Marco Simoncelli and Casey Stoner.

Andrea Dovizioso made it five teenagers in the top five despite failing to hang on to a front row spot, with the experienced pair of Stefano Perugini and Steve Jenkner just behind him. Mika Kallio completes the second row. Further back, Australian wildcard rider Josh Waters qualified in 27th place – ahead of experienced Grand Prix campaigner Youichi Ui.
