Locatelli confirms departure from KTM Red Bull

Roberto Locatelli has been told that he will not be riding for the KTM Red Bull team next year after a disappointing season which ended with a disappointing 17th place in the final race of the season at Valencia on Sunday. The result left the former 125cc World Champion down in 24th position in the final standings and he was informed almost immediately after the race that his contract was to be terminated.

"I am disappointed with KTM's decision," fumed Locatelli, who scored points on just four occasions this season. "I thought I would be staying with the team - even though it is true that lately the atmosphere has become a little cold. One of the factory officials came to Valencia this weekend to tell me that they didn't want me next season, which is very disappointing because I know I have done my job right until the end – as much in terms as developing the bike as my performance on the track. I don't think my hard work has been recognised, although obviously I am at the expense of what they decide. It is a real shame because this bike will be one of the main candidates to fight for the title next season."

The 29 year old is now actively seeking employment for next season and has already made contact with several teams. "I would like to stay in 125cc with an official Aprilia and I am talking with a few Italian teams. Everything happened very quickly on Sunday and I need a few days to sort my future out."

125cc, 2003, Roberto Locatelli
