Battaini to continue with Campetella Racing

Franco Battaini has revealed that he will continue with the Campetella Racing Team in 2004 after taking sixth spot and the best privateer trophy with them this season. The Italian said that he has yet to sign a contract with the team but insisted a verbal agreement was in place to continue their excellent relationship for at least another season.

"I will be meeting with the team officials over the next few days but my future in this championship is with Campetella Racing," said the 31 year old. "I just need to sign now and, as long as there are no last minute surprises, I'll be on an Aprilia kit again. Obviously I would have liked it to be an official bike to be able to set myself new objectives but at the moment it's not possible."

Despite his disappointment at not convincing the Italian factory to invest their official support to his cause, Battaini added that he was satisfied with his season – the second in succession that he has won the best privateer award ."I think I have done the maximum possible with this bike. I have been the best privateer and on several occasions I finished ahead of Porto on the factory Honda. If it wasn't for a few crashes in the second half of the season I could have finished fifth in the championship but with this bike you have to push the limits if you want results and it's very easy to fall in those circumstances."
