Rain spoils first day of Aprilia and Ducati test at Jerez

The Aprilia and Ducati MotoGP teams today began three days of testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain but were hindered throughout the first day by intermittent rain. British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne had been due to make his debut on the 2003 version Aprilia RS3 but in light of the temperamental conditions and slippery track surface he watched from pit wall as experienced test rider Marcelino Lucchi ran through development parts for the 2004 prototype.

Ducati Marlboro Team riders Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss both completed a handful of laps during a brief dry spell during the afternoon, making tentative first tests with new engine parts as well as an updated chassis for the Desmosedici.

The test is due to continue on Tuesday and conclude on Wednesday.
