Davies nominated for top UK award

Chaz Davies' achievements as the youngest ever points scorer in the 250cc World Championship have been recognised on home shores with his nomination for the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award. The nomination is a huge boost not only for Davies but also for motorcycle sport in Britain, with World Superbike Champion and new MotoGP star Neil Hodgson also nominated for the senior award. Davies will go up against the cream of young British sporting talent for the prize, which was won last year by teenage footballing sensation Wayne Rooney.

"It was a bit of a surprise to be nominated but it's a nice honour and it goes to show that people are taking notice of motorcycle racing in Great Britain," said Davies, who is still looking for sponsorship as he looks to strike a renewed deal with Aprilia Germany next season. "I doubt I'll win it because I'm up against gold medal winners, but like I say it's nice just to be nominated and to be recognised. I'm up for a couple of regional awards as well over the next few weeks so it's been a nice end to a positive year."

Although a deal has yet to be struck for next year, Davies says he is not worrying too much and is taking the opportunity to enjoy being a teenager before the season starts. "I don't really get involved in the negotiations so at the moment I'm just enjoying the time off and taking the chance to see some live rock music. On Wednesday I went to see The Strokes in concert, which was fantastic, and I'm hoping to get tickets for the Kings of Leon pretty soon. Hopefully after Christmas my future will be sorted out and then I can concentrate on getting back on a bike again."
