Cecchinello, Ballerini and Perugini also recognised at Bologna

Whilst some of the famous names in MotoGP racing were honoured at a series of special prize ceremonies at the Bologna Motor Show this week, there were also awards for 125 riders Lucio Cecchinello, Stefano Perugini and Andrea Ballerini. The trio were all presented with the prestigious ‘Golden Helmet' award after each winning at least one Grand Prix during the 2003 season.

Perugini mounted a string title challenge throughout a season which peaked with victories at the opening round at Suzuka and at Sachsenring in round nine. Cecchinello, who announced his retirement as a racer at the end of the season, took victories at Jerez and Mugello whilst Ballerini was the surprise maiden victor of an unpredictasble wet race at Phillip Island in the penultimate round of the season.
