FIM awards takes place in Dubai and closes the motorcycle racing season for 2003

A spectacular term of motorcycle racing concluded last Saturday with the last official event of the calendar, the annual FIM prize-giving ceremony. The traditional end of season curtain-closer took place in Dubai at the Hotel Mina A´Salam with the various delegates of the FIM, invited guests and of course the champions of the numerous disciplines throughout 2003 in attendance.

MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi was arguably the star of the show picking up the trophy for the third consecutive time. Rossi, along with 22 other world title winners and 4 teams, collected their spoils from FIM president Francesco Zerbi.

The Italian commented on the fresh challenge he faces for 2004 having left the Honda camp (the only manufacturer he has ridden with in the premier class) to join Yamaha. "We haven't done anything on the track but I have a lot of experience in the series and on the circuits in the Championship. It will be fun." Regarding his chances for the upcoming campaign, Rossi remained cautious ahead of testing his new mount for the first time next month: "I will have to wait until the first test before I can comment because I do not yet know the level of the bike. I am going to need a little time but for sure it is going to be an exciting season."> Manuel Poggiali was present to collect the 250cc crown he won in his first crack at the series and Neil Hodgson picked up his World Superbike Championship just days after his debut test as part of the Ducati D´Antin squad.

125cc World Champion Dani Pedrosa could not attend the ceremony as he is still recovering from the injury to his feet.
