Ajo Motorsport sign up Ballerini to replace Kallio

Italian rider Andrea Ballerini has joined up with the Ajo Motorsport team in Estoril, filling the void left by Mika Kallio when he made a shock switch to KTM last month. Whilst the team have confirmed that they have started legal proceedings against Kallio and KTM, Ballerini brings the experience of 48 Grand Prix appearances and a precocious talent which has yet to be fully exploited at World Championship level.

"During the last weeks many riders have offered their services to us and all the time Ballerini has been one of the top nominees," said Team Manager Aki Ajo. "I know that he is very capable to do good teamwork and as an eager and talented rider he can make good results if he only gets bike fast enough. However he has raced this season only three races and so we have to give him first some time to get used to our bike and to find his characteristic speed."

Ballerini added: "I am very happy that I got a chance to race in Aki Ajo's team. I like the way how this team works. Everything is well organized and effective and everyone is very concentrated to the work they do. Aki has also tuned the bike so well, that I hope I can make the results it deserves."
