Hello everybody and a Happy New Year,

I hope you have all had a nice holiday and are ready for another exciting 250cc season. Personally I can't wait to get started and after a nice relaxing Christmas I am ready to get back on my bike. I have spent much of the break in the Swiss mountains where I live, skiing with my friends and having a lot of fun. I went home to see my family in Torino for Christmas and since then I have been enjoying some nice weather in Southern Italy, riding some supermoto and generally preparing myself for the first test of the preseason.

It will take place at Jerez on the 20th and 21st January and believe me it couldn't come soon enough. I am ready to ride and I am really looking forward to seeing what Honda have come up with. Basically, we will be sticking with the 2003 bike for now and I am expecting some updates for the engine and chassis, which is where we really lacked last season. Then at the end of February we will get the 2004 bikes, just in time for the IRTA tests in March.

As you know I will have a team-mate next season, Toni Elias, and we worked together for the first time at the start of December at his first test. It is early days yet but he is a really nice guy and we have already struck up a good relationship. Of course, he will be a big rival next year above anything but it will be good to have somebody to work with and help develop the bike.

In total there will be four factory Honda riders fighting against Aprilia whereas last year there was only myself and Porto, so this is very important. Now we can all give information and references for Honda to work from, so this should speed up development time during the season, which will make a major difference.

Before the test I'll be visiting sick children in the Regina Margherita Hospital in Torino and bringing them some presents. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time so I have to say thanks particularly to my Fan Club for arranging it. I hope I can give some moment of happiness and I am sure I will realise how lucky we are whilst seeing how these children face the difficulties of their conditions.

I'll speak to you all again from Jerez!
