Hiroshi Aoyama happy with new team

After completing his first ever laps on a European circuit in a private test at Jerez last week test, Hiroshi Aoyama officially signed for the Telefónica Movistar Junior over the weekend and has returned to Japan. After a hectic week in Spain, which included a medical in Barcelona, two days of tests in Jerez and signature of the deal which sees him line up for his first full Grand Prix season as team-mate to Dani Pedrosa, the 22 year old gave his thoughts to

"Meeting Alberto Puig, my new Team Manager, and signing the contract were very special moments for me," he said. "One of my dreams has come true and at last I will ride in the World Championship. I am very happy and excited."

On his first riding experience outside of Japan, Aoyama commented: "Jerez is a faster circuit than what I am used to in my country, with a lot of long corners. In Japan they are not usually like that and at first I found it difficult. I need to build up the kilometres to adapt if I want to be effective but at the first test I was being careful not to crash. Alberto Puig has a lot of experience as a rider and he helped me with some comments and tips about what I was doing out on the track."

Aoyama also added that he was surprised by the size of his new team, which is backed by one of the championship's major sponsors. "I couldn't believe how many people were in the team. In Japan I had one mechanic, but now I have six. I am not used to working with so many people around me so I will have to adapt to that as well, and improve my English. In any case, Alberto Puig is always there and I feel relaxed content about that."

The Japanese rider now has two weeks at home before returning to Spain for his second test at the Catalunya circuit on the 11th February. In the meantime, he says, his calendar is pretty full. "Before the first race I really have to work hard on my communication skills and also my physical training. That is something I have spoken about with Alberto we agree that I should take things step by step, advancing throughout the season."
