Barberá sets the pace in Aprilia test at Jerez

Héctor Barberá stamped his authority over his fellow Aprilia riders at the first day of factory 125cc testing at Jerez. The Team Seedorf Racing rider clocked a best lap of 1'48.689, with his team-mate Álvaro Bautista second fastest in 1'48.882. It is the second test of the winter period for the Spanish pair, who already rode at Valencia before Christmas. Pablo Nieto, who took pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix at the same circuit back in May with a lap of 1'47.711, was unable to test after breaking his scaphoid riding supermotard last Friday.

Youichi Ui was present however, having finally given up on his dream of moving up to the 250cc category for 2004. The veteran Japanese rider was the only man other than the two Spanish youngsters to drop below 1'49. Roberto Locatelli, who returns to Aprilia after a disappointing season with KTM, was fifth fastest.
