Shinya Nakano comments on his Kawasaki debut

Only ten days after signing a contract with Kawasaki Shinya Nakano tested the new Ninja ZX-RR at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia last week. The Japanese rider is approaching the project with enthusiasm and is keen to place his quest for MotoGP glory back on track with the green team after a season working on the development of the Yamaha four-stroke. The 2000 250cc number two relayed his first impressions of one of the currently unproven machines on the MotoGP grid.

"I was worried before heading out on the track, mainly because of the circumstances surrounding the test: New team, new bike, new tyres... but after a few laps I slowly got my feeling back and was able to concentrate on the test. I set a good time on the second day and the last session was also very positive," explained the 26 year old.

"My laptimes are not that great in comparison to the other manufacturers but I am happy to get the first outing with the Kawasaki under my belt. I think that we worked well and the test has set us on a line of progression for the future," added Nakano. "I am knee-deep in the process of trying to adapt to the bike but right now I'm just trying to give as much information as possible to the technicians; I'm already impatient to get their work and the new stuff out on the circuit for the next test which will happen in February."

Team director Harald Eckl had this to say concerning the constantly evolving project: "I can say that the test was a success. Shinya has work well and already rides the Ninja ZX-RR with confidence. Alex Hofmann also took some good times. All of the team were supportive and worked effectively. I have a feeling that this coming season we will be able to make some decent results. We will have an intense period of work before the first race but I am sure that the direction of development we are taking with the Ninja ZX-RR is the right one."
