Pablo Nieto sits out the first test of 2004 due to injury

Pablo Nieto was obliged to miss the first pre-season test of 2004 with Team Aspar due to an injury picked up while practicing supermoto in Valencia. The rider from Madrid had planned to take part in the Aprilia session held this week at Jerez but a broken scaphoid on his left wrist after a supermoto prang forced a change of schedule. Following medical advice Nieto is looking at two weeks out of the saddle and meant that he also has to watch the latest sessions involving teams supported by the Italian manufacturer today at Valencia, that also continue tomorrow.

"It was a really stupid crash while I was training and riding Supermoto but I managed to break my scaphoid and it meant a visit to the operating theatre," the first time GP winner in 2003 explained. "It is an unlucky injury because it has meant that I've missed the first two pre-season tests but there is not a lot I can do about this. Dr. Angel Villamor said to me that we have to keep an eye on the injury, it depends on how the bone knits but if everything goes OK I reckon I will be on the track at the next test we have on the programme, also at Valencia in February."

Although unable to don his crash helmet, Nieto has travelled to Valencia to how the sessions are progressing with his team-mates.
