Capirossi and Bayliss look forward to their first test on the D16 GP4

Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss have both revealed their optimism for the new MotoGP season ahead of their first test on board the 2004 version Ducati Desmosedici at Sepang this week. The D16 GP4 was unveiled to the international press at a special presentation at Bologna airport last week and both riders agreed that if it performs as well as it looks then they have a good chance of winning the World Championship.

"The new bike is good looking compared to last year - there has been a lot of improvement and a lot of evolution," commented Capirossi, who took victory with the 2003 prototype in just its sixth race at Catalunya last year. "For sure it looks better so we will see at the next test in Malaysia, which will be really important to find out our level. For sure this is an important season for us because we have one year behind us. A lot of evolution has gone in so I think this year could be great for us and we'll try to do our best."

Bayliss highlighted the importance of the upcoming back-to-back tests at Sepang and Phillip Island and admitted that he was itching to get back on a bike after the long winter holiday. "From here until the first race is really, really important," said the former World Superbike Champion. "We're starting a little bit later than the others but it's been very important for everybody at Ducati to get everything finished exactly how they wanted it. We have to work really hard in these next few tests just to really set off the year because once the year starts it's going to be very hectic."

"The championship gets tougher every year – this year I think there'll be more guys who can play towards the front of the field so you'll have to be very consistent. The first few tests are important, that's for sure, but I'm really looking forward to it – just getting on a bike, it's been quite a while. Sometimes that's a good thing because you come back really hungry - and I am hungry, I want to get on it."
