The MotoGP World Championship 2004 gets underway with an exciting prologue at the Catalunya circuit on the 26th, 27th and 28th March at the first official test of an intense preseason. Whilst the different factories and teams have been jetting around the world all winter to complete their individual development programmes, this is the first time they will ALL be on track together, in what is sure to be an intriguing battle of wills before the season proper gets underway on April 18th at Welkom, South Africa, and you can follow the action right here at with access to all our multimedia footage form the test for the bargain price of just 1 EURO (approx 1.25USD).

Valentino Rossi did his best to match the Hondas at Sepang and Phillip Island but fell some way short in the final push for times and will be hoping latest developments at Yamaha's Japanese factory headquarters can enable him to compete for top spot in Barcelona. Meanwhile, the battle for priority treatment in Rossi's absence in the ultra-competitive HRC garages rages on, with Max Biaggi, Nicky Hayden, Sete Gibernau and Colin Edwards so far all staking their claim as the factory's number one rider whilst Alex Barros has worked his way back from injury and Makoto Tamada has focussed on developing Bridgestone tyres.

After a positive first test at Sepang, Ducati uncovered a whole host of unexpected difficulties in their second test with the Desmosedici GP4 at Phillip Island and both Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss will be hoping these problems can be ironed out at a circuit where the Italian factory took their first ever MotoGP win with Capirossi on the 2003 bike last season. MotoGP newcomers Neil Hodgson and Ruben Xaus are riding that version of the machine this season and, alongside Aprilia and Kawasaki rookies Shane Byrne and Alex Hofmann, will be keen to demonstrate their competitiveness after enduring a difficult introduction to MotoGP racing during the spring tests.

Elsewhere, the MotoGP Official Test at Catlunya should see a return to regular action for the Proton and WCM teams, who have spent the winter developing their new machines in private and have yet to measure up to their rivals' latest offerings on the track.
