Poggiali unveils the new Aprilia RSW

Manuel Poggiali was back home in San Marino today for the official unveiling of the new Aprilia RSW 250. The latest version of the 250cc World Championship winning bike is again sponsored by tobacco giants MS, but this year it is adorned in white and gold instead of the traditional black and boasts the San Marino flag on its fairing.

Joined on stage by Aprilia President Ivano Beggio and the current Miss Italy, Eleonora Pedron, reigning quarter-litre World Champion Poggiali revealed that he had already put last season behind him and was looking forward to the challenge ahead. "What happened last season was very nice, but now is the time to look ahead," he commented. "I would prefer to forget about last season altogether - I consider myself to still be a rookie in 250. We're starting again from zero and I have to perform to my maximum from the first race – or even before that, in the tests. We are the team to beat but we are in good shape and the bike is continually improving."

Chief Engineer Jan Witteveen made slight reference to the increased competition from Honda this season, who have doubled their factory effort to four bikes, announcing that, like Poggiali, he was excited by the challenge. "This year the competition will be very tough and that is positive for the category," he said. "This year victory will have a sweeter taste. In order to achive it, we have prepared a new chassis and rear suspension which the riders have reported offers improved feeling and lap times."

The optimism demonstrated by Poggiali and Witteveen was echoed by Mr Beggio, who commented: "It will be a close and exciting season full of great challenges. I am happy that we have Manuel, a strong and passionate young man, on our side and I hope that we have him with us forever."
