Barros and Bayliss top the timesheets at MotoGP test in Valencia

Valentino Rossi's substitute in the official Repsol Honda team, Alex Barros was today the fastest rider on track in tests at the Valencia circuit today, where the Hondas share track with bikes from Ducati, Suzuki and Proton. Barros set a best lap of 1'33.5, which was only equalled by Ducati's Australian rider Troy Bayliss. Just a tenth behind the leading duo was Barros' teammate, American Nicky Hayden.

Kenny Roberts Junior once again had to rely on Spanish rider Gregorio Lavilla as his teammate, with his official team colleague John Hopkins still nursing injuries in the US, as reported on motogp.com this week.

In the Proton KR garage, only Japanese rider Nobuatsu Aoki lapped on the 2004 version of the independent V5 racer. Complaining of back pains, his teammate Kurtis Roberts could only manage a few laps during the morning on the 2003 edition of the bike.

Finally, with their British pairing Shane Byrne and Jeremy McWilliams absent from this test, the Aprilia MotoGP squad relied on information supplied by their official test rider, the veteran Italian Marcellino Lucchi.
