Toni Elías continued to set the pace on the second day of tests for a variety of 250cc teams at Valencia on Sunday. Riding the new version of the RS 250 RW, the Fortuna Honda rider left the Spanish circuit with a best time of 1'36.0 to cap a more than satisfactory weekend for the Japanese factory, who saw Telefónica Movistar Junior Team rider Dani Pedrosa clock the second fastest time. The 125cc World Champion, in just his second day aboard the quarter-litre machine after recovering from two broken ankles during the winter, was just a tenth slower than former team-mate Elías despite having to continually return to his pit box to apply ice to his injuries.

"Things went even better today than they did yesterday but I know I have to take it step by step," commented Pedrosa, who improved his time from the first day by 0.8 seconds. "We have completed the objectives we set ourselves for this test. As I said yesterday, things have gone better than we had ever hoped, although I still have a long way to go to improve my physical condition."

Fellow Spaniard Fonsi Nieto continued development work on the 2004 version Aprilia chassis, clocking the third fastest time of the day with a 1'35.5 but crashing twice. Franco Battaini and Arnaud Vincent also crashed, with the Frenchman injuring his collarbone. "Despite the crash, I'm really excited by the challenge of stepping up to 250cc and I'm happy that it's with a team that I already know," commented Vincent, who rides for the Equipe de France team in his debut quarter-litre season. "On Monday I'll return to France and I hope to have recovered fully for the next test at Barcelona."

Alex Debón did not ride on Sunday due to the fractured elbow he suffered in a crash on Saturday.
