Rossi catches some F1 action before heading to Phillip Island

MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi was in Melbourne at the weekend to catch up on some top level racing action at the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park. Rossi, who has recently been in Japan for Yamaha's official MotoGP launch, was on his way to Phillip Island for the latest batch of preseason tests with the Japanese factory and took the opportunity to catch up with his friends at Ferrari, including reigning F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher.

The German took a clear victory in Sunday's race to begin his quest for a fifth successive title – a feat that Rossi would no doubt love to replicate in MotoGP, as he looks to successfully defend his own crown with Yamaha after lifting it three times in a row for Honda. The leading lights in two and four-wheeled competition no doubt had plenty to talk about, with Schumacher having made a similar move to Rossi earlier in his career when he traded in his World Championship-winning Benetton for the Ferrari.

Yamaha begin a three day test at Phillip Island on Tuesday, when Rossi will be joined by factory colleagues Carlos Checa, Marco Melandri and Norick Abe.
