The Movistar Junior Cup takes 281 hopefuls to Jarama

The selection process for the Movistar Junior Cup entered a new stage today when 281 hopefuls, selected from an initial list of 4,587 applicants, got the chance to demonstrate their talent on a racetrack at Jarama in Spain. Alberto Puig and his selection committee were casting an experienced eye over the youngsters at the former Grand Prix circuit near Madrid, where each rider had 15 minutes to impress on a Honda CBR 600. The top 100 in the eyes of the adjudicators will get a further 15 minutes on Wednesday and on Thursday the final list of 22 riders for a seven round series will be announced.

The most promising youngsters to emerge from this competition, which in the past included current 125cc World Champion Dani Pedrosa, will join the Telefónica MoviStar Junior Team for a tilt at the 2005 Spanish Supersport crown, with the possibility of moving up to World Championship level the following season. The MoviStar Junior Cup is organised by Telefónica MoviStar in collaboration with Dorna, Honda and the Spanish Motorcycling Federation with the objective of introducing fresh new talent to competitive motorcycle racing.
