Gibernau and Edwards catch up with sponsorship duties during preseason respite

Despite the brief pause in an intense preseason schedule Telefónica Movistar Honda riders Sete Gibernau and Colin Edwards have remained, quite literally, in the spotlight recently. Both riders have been catching up on sponsorship commitments ahead of the new season which, for the Spaniard, meant a rather unusual photo session with boot manufacturers XPD, who have developed a model specially designed for the runner-up in the 2003 MotoGP World Championship.

Gibernau posed for the cameras in nothing but the boots, and admitted that he had to call on his racing experience to hide his nerves. "Even though it was a pretty strange situation I felt very relaxed," he explained. "I just thought of it as a race and concentrated purely on the objective".

His team-mate Edwards, meanwhile, was allowed to keep his leathers on as he rode the RC211V for a promotional video in Estoril. "Marketing compromises are part of our job - we have to look after our sponsors," commented the American. "It's not easy to ride the bike and not push it – it's like being in jail".

Edwards added that he was looking forward to the upcoming tests in Barcelona and the season in general. "I want to be consistently at the front and I want to win the title," he said. "I am not so young any more and I can't afford to lose time. Everything is open at Honda and that gives me a chance. Ducati and Yamaha will have their chances but Honda has been the strongest factory over recent years and it will continue to be so".
